Daily Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Cast Iron Gates for Long Service Life
Cast iron gates are known for their sturdy structure and long service life, but scientific daily maintenance and timely fault troubleshooting are essential to avoid premature aging and failure. Most gate failures in water conservancy projects are caused by neglected daily maintenance rather than product quality problems. Daily maintenance work is simple but crucial, suitable for long-term regular management of water conservancy stations, river courses and irrigation areas. First of all, do a good job in daily cleaning. Sediment, aquatic weeds, floating garbage in the channel will adhere to the gate plate and sealing parts, which will cause friction and wear during gate opening and closing, and even lead to poor sealing and water leakage. It is necessary to regularly clean the surface dirt and internal sediment of the gate body to keep the equipment clean. Secondly, regular anti-rust maintenance is required. Although cast iron has corrosion resistance, long-term exposure to humid air and water immersion will still cause rust. Regularly check the gate surface and exposed parts of the hoist, polish rust spots and supplement anti-corrosion coating to prevent rust expansion and structural damage. In addition, lubricate the rotating and sliding parts regularly to ensure flexible opening and closing and avoid jamming failure. In terms of common troubleshooting, the most frequent problems are gate jamming, water leakage and slow lifting. Gate jamming is mostly caused by foreign matter blocking or component rust, which can be solved by cleaning foreign matter and lubricating parts. Water leakage is usually due to aging sealing strips or loose fitting gaps, which needs to replace accessories and adjust the gap tightness. Slow lifting is generally caused by hoist failure or insufficient lubrication. Timely inspection and repair can quickly solve the problem. Adhering to daily maintenance can effectively reduce failure rate, extend equipment service life and reduce project operation costs.
