Why PVC Temporary Cofferdams Are Replacing Steel & Sandbags for Short-Term Water Projects
For temporary water isolation, river construction, and flood emergency projects, traditional water-blocking solutions including steel sheet piles and sandbags have long been the mainstream choice. However, PVC temporary cofferdams have rapidly become the preferred option for modern civil engineering and emergency flood control, thanks to their unique advantages of light weight, low cost, reusability, and zero corrosion.
Compared with heavy steel cofferdams, PVC temporary cofferdams boast extremely lightweight features. Made of high-strength modified PVC material, they are 40 times lighter than steel of the same area, which greatly reduces transportation costs and on-site construction difficulty. Unlike steel structures that require large cranes and professional welding equipment for installation, PVC cofferdams can be assembled quickly by a small team with simple tools, shortening the project preparation period by more than half.
Against disposable sandbags, PVC cofferdams show overwhelming cost and environmental advantages. Sandbags are prone to leakage, deformation, and mud soaking failure, and can only be used once, producing a large amount of construction waste. In contrast, high-quality PVC temporary cofferdams have excellent structural stability, tight interlocking connection, and zero water permeability. They can be disassembled and reused 15 to 20 times for multiple projects, effectively reducing long-term engineering costs and realizing green construction.
In addition, PVC materials have natural corrosion resistance, never rusting in humid, seawater, and brackish water environments. They are also immune to damage from marine organisms and chemical erosion, maintaining stable water-blocking performance in complex waterfront construction scenarios. For all short-term water isolation projects, PVC temporary cofferdams are a more efficient, economical, and reliable alternative
