Composition of a Hydraulic Elevator Dam

Composition of a Hydraulic Elevator Dam

A hydraulic elevator dam is a movable hydraulic structure mainly used for water level regulation, flood control, and water resource utilization. Its composition can be divided into four core systems, each undertaking different functional roles.

1. Main Structural Components

These components form the "framework" of the dam, responsible for bearing water pressure and ensuring overall stability.
  • Water Retaining Panel (Gate Leaf): The core part that directly blocks water flow. It is usually made of steel or reinforced concrete, with a structure designed to resist high water pressure.

  • Guide Rail System: Guides the vertical lifting of the water retaining panel. It ensures the panel moves smoothly without deviation during elevation adjustment.

  • Foundation and Support Structure: The base of the entire dam, including concrete foundations and steel supports. It transfers the weight of the dam and water pressure to the ground to prevent settlement or tilting.

2. Hydraulic Drive Components

This system provides the "power" for the dam's lifting, relying on hydraulic pressure to realize the movement of the water retaining panel.
  • Hydraulic Cylinders: The executive parts that push the panel up and down. Multiple cylinders are usually arranged symmetrically to ensure uniform force on the panel.

  • Hydraulic Pump Station: The power source of the hydraulic system. It includes electric motors, hydraulic pumps, and oil tanks, which convert electrical energy into hydraulic energy to drive the cylinders.

  • Oil Pipes and Control Valves: Connect the pump station and cylinders. Oil pipes transport hydraulic oil, while control valves adjust the oil flow direction and pressure to control the lifting speed and position of the panel.

3. Control System Components

This system acts as the "brain" of the dam, realizing automatic or manual control of the dam's operation.
  • Central Control Unit (PLC): The core of the control system. It receives signals from sensors, processes data, and issues instructions to the hydraulic system.

  • Sensor System: Includes water level sensors, pressure sensors, and position sensors. It monitors real-time water level, hydraulic system pressure, and panel position to ensure safe operation.

  • Operation Interface: Provides manual control options for operators. It includes a control panel and a remote monitoring screen, allowing on-site or remote operation of the dam.

4. Auxiliary Components

These components ensure the stable and long-term operation of the dam, mainly for protection and maintenance.
  • Sealing Device: Installed around the water retaining panel. It prevents water leakage between the panel and the guide rail or foundation.

  • Emergency Protection System: Includes emergency stop valves and overload protection devices. It can quickly cut off the hydraulic system in case of failure to avoid accidents.

  • Anti-Corrosion and Lubrication Components: Such as anti-rust coatings on steel structures and lubricating oil for moving parts. They extend the service life of the dam components.
